Okay - I spent more time trying to photograph this than it took to paint...Of course I could have spent more time painting it but I'm trying a new approach on these challenges of Karin Jurick's whereby I'm developing and executing a plan, learning what works and what doesn't and then moving on. I really enjoyed the flow of fabric, curves of the body and the connection between the woman and the dog and by not pressuring myself to come up with a good product I enjoyed the process more.

I like your attitude -- having fun is my favorite way to learn. You capture some really nice light effects in all the paintings of yours I've seen here. Especially the one of you and your friend taking photographs off the pier. Nice!

Thanks Mark. Went to a workshop in November where we worked on value, putting in the darkest and lightest values and then no more than 4 more in between. I think I can go to each end of the value scale but those in betweens are elusive!

Your image has a great feel. Haunting? Erie? But you can still see the warm relationship between the woman and dog. Nice job.
You did such a great job on this very difficult assignment! Great values. I also like the ethereal "mist" swirling around. So glad I found your site. I really like your artwork.
