Beach Family
8 x 12
oil on dooskin
Karin Juricks bi-weekly challenge was a whopper this time and intimidating as she drew me out of my comfort zone into her arena. I moved the boy as I wanted the kids between the parents as they both are looking like sentries guarding the brood. I find I still battle between trying to be realistic and wanting to be painterly. I need to loosen up some more but am happy with this one as I learned so much. Thanks Karin.

This is lovely, Barb. I like the way you adjusted the figures. It enhances the composition. The two figures on the ends--looking forward and looking back open up the vista. great colors and reflections, too!

Thanks Liz and Dominique. It's so much fun to see how many different approaches everyone has taken to portraying these images.

Hi Barb,
I like that you made the parents "sentries"! Great idea.
I'll be painting mine starting today.
Well done!

Once again enjoy your rendering. Beautiful color. I want to join them in the surf.
I wrote you a note following your comment on my blog. If you have time, take a peek.

Thanks Annie, Liz and Ruth - this was fun but so much more fun is seeing all the beautiful results from everyone else. Looks like we'll have to wait an extra week for the next challenge.

Barb, thanks for signing up as the first follower on my blog. I'm so surprised and excited to see how this all evolves. I love this, being able to connect with artists from all over. Here I am in NH connecting with you in British Columbia. Amazing!
